Josh Wharehinga is first and foremost a father, and his leadership is grounded in a deep commitment to whānau, community, and creating a better future for the next generation.

A seasoned Māori leader, governance expert, and social entrepreneur, Josh has built a career spanning education, local government, health, and commercial enterprise. He has served on more than 20 boards, including as Deputy Mayor of Gisborne and Chair of Toitū Te Ora, the Iwi Māori Partnership Board. He brings extensive governance experience, including a strong background in crisis governance — providing leadership, stability, and sound decision-making through periods of significant challenge and change.

As the founder of several successful businesses and a respected speaker on international stages, Josh combines indigenous knowledge with contemporary governance and commercial experience. He is passionate about strengthening local leadership, championing community voice, and creating culturally grounded, future-focused solutions that empower whānau across Te Tairāwhiti and Aotearoa.
